What it says

The bunkhouse: finished yesterday, June 20. It was the shed. Nate Lahti's crew, five weeks. $8,900.00. What it is now: - 12 x 16 feet on the old slab. Insulated walls and ceiling. Pine paneling, tongue and groove, finished clear (a water-based satin, two coats; Nate left a quart). - FOUR BUNKS built into the two long walls, an upper and a lower on each side, like berths. Each takes an ordinary twin mattress, 38 x 75. Each has a rail, a shelf and its own reading light. - Two windows: one beside the door and one on the lake side, which was Samir's idea. - An electric wall heater with its own thermostat, on its own breaker, labelled BUNKHOUSE in the cabin panel. It is for cool nights in May and September, not for winter. - Four outlets. A ceiling light. No plumbing; it is forty feet to the cabin's bathroom, and Ray has put a sensor light on the path. - The door is steel, painted red: Benjamin Moore Caliente, AF-290. It locks with a keypad; every grandchild is to be given the code. Ray's inspection: he asked for one more screw in each bunk rail and got it. Bought for it: four mattresses, four sets of sheets (blue, green, red, gold), pads, pillows. Still wanted: four quilts. Two tops are done.
