What it says

Three weeks one-handed. Things I cannot do: button a cuff, open a jar, cut meat, put my hair up, fasten anything behind my back, knead. R. does all of these now, the last under instruction. He has cooked every night. Chili three ways; walleye; an omelet with too much in it. He washes my hair in the kitchen sink on Saturdays with his sleeves rolled, as carefully as he would bleed a brake line. I missed hanging the quilt show. I am reading "Middlemarch," propped on a pillow, a hundred pages a day, for the first time since library school.
