What it says

Surgery yesterday, Dr. Rasmusson, in and out the same day. A plate and seven screws. They numbed the whole arm from the shoulder, so that for twelve hours it lay beside me like something left in the bed by a stranger. Still typing with one hand, but I have found the shift key. Home by three. R. has made a chart of the pills. Lorraine came with soup and a book of large-print crosswords, as a joke, and I have done four.
