What it says
The rules, per Ellen, who gave them to us on the telephone. Posted on the refrigerator. For as long as it takes.
1. Neither of us goes inside a store. Not Fenner's, not the hardware.
2. Groceries: Ellen orders them from Naperville and Fenner's delivers to the garage on Fridays. I send her the list Wednesday night.
3. What comes in a box sits in the garage a day. What must be cold is wiped and put away, and then hands.
4. Prescriptions: Heron Lane brings them to the car. Telephone from the lot.
5. The mail sits on the hall table until the next morning.
6. Nobody comes in. Marlene and I talk across the hedge. The grandchildren are on the laptop.
7. Walks: yes, every day, the loop, and step off the pavement for other people.
8. If either of us has a fever, a cough or cannot smell the coffee: telephone Dr. Raghavan's nurse line first, then Ellen.
Ray's ninety-day refills were approved by the insurance without argument.
Cancelled so far: church (it is on the screen), book club, the guild, the quilt show (it was to be the 14th; the quilts were already hung, and were taken down unseen), the spring book sale, Ray's woodworkers.
