What it says

Per Ray: the standby generator. Put in yesterday by Borealis Power & Electric, two men, one day. - Kohler, 14 kilowatt, runs on propane from our own tank. - On a pad beside the pump house, 6 feet from the wall, exhaust pointing away from the cabin. - A transfer switch by the breaker panel in the hall closet. When the power from the pole stops, it waits ten seconds, starts the generator and moves the whole cabin onto it. When the power comes back, it moves us back and shuts down. Nobody has to be here. - It carries everything: the well pump, the furnace, the refrigerator, the freezer, the cameras, the internet. - It tests itself every Tuesday at 10 in the morning for 20 minutes. That noise is not a fault. - Propane: it wants the tank kept above 40 per cent going into winter. Kivela is on will-call; telephone them at 30. - Service once a year by Borealis. The warranty (five years) depends on it. Put it on the calendar for late September. - Leave the switch on the unit at AUTO. Not OFF. Not even for closing. - $9,840.00 installed. The Honda goes to the boathouse as a spare. Run it twice a summer so it does not gum up.
