Traps it covers
expiring_soon Ray's passport runs out in about eight weeks, before the anniversary trip to Norway they are planning for 2027. The truck's registration and policy and the dishwasher warranty end within weeks.
near_duplicate Each current policy sits next to last year's. Peg has an old and a new passport. Two diamond solitaire rings, hers and her mother's. Old and new doses of the same drug. Two jewelry appraisals eight years apart, whose names no longer say which is current. Two years of the accountant's summary. The 2019 wills and the 2003 ones are both still in the grey box, per two notes. Not every expired policy is labelled as such any more; the dates say it.
someone_elses Peg and Ray each have one of nearly everything, an IRA statement included. Both take atorvastatin, at different doses. Only Peg's health care power of attorney is scanned. "My" means Peg's.
two_of_a_kind Two houses, each with its own policy, deed, tax bills and contents. Each policy has its own rule about freezing while the place is empty, with different numbers. Three cars, one of them sold. Two dogs, one of them dead.
only_in_file The facts kept in one file and nowhere else. The long-term care daily benefit ($272.27) is only on the schedule. The life policy's cash value is only on its statement. The cabin's wind deductible ($7,700) and its theft and tree limits are only on its declarations. The house policy's jewelry sublimit, water backup limit and the rule about leaving the house empty in winter (condition 6.4, on page 5 of 8) are only in the policy. Ray's LDL of 68 is only on the lab sheet. Adjusted gross income for 2025 ($116,640) and for 2024 ($109,870) is only in each year's summary. The truck's title number is only on the title (that there is no lien also follows from the purchase receipt's "no loan"). The value of Peg's IRA is only on its statement. The septic system's design and the county's three-year pumping rule are only on the permit.
only_in_file Facts that are in no record field but overlap across files, in different words. The appraised values of the Omega ($4,150) and the pearls ($1,900) are in the 2024 appraisal and on the valuables schedule; the 2016 appraisal has older figures. The successor trustees and the specific gifts are in the trust. What happens to the cabin is in the trust (sold), in the amendment that replaced that paragraph (kept by the three children; the saved amendment is a scan with no text) and in the lawyer's letter that explains the amendment. Ray's 2026 required withdrawal ($28,012.02) is on the IRA statement and in the advisor's letter, and the 2025 tax summary gives it as "about $28,000". The porch change order is in the contract; the receipt says only that the porch came in $800 over.
not_saved Ray has no birth certificate saved, though Peg has hers. No marriage certificate is saved. The boats are insured but have no title or registration saved. The RAV4 has no title document; the F-150 does, twice over. The CR-V's title was signed over without being copied. Neither will is scanned, nor Ray's health care power of attorney, nor any tax return, only the accountant's summaries for 2024 and 2025. None of the children's or grandchildren's SSNs or passports are saved. Why each is missing is under fact_sheet.missing.
mismatch The 2026 valuables schedule lists the sapphire ring at $4,600, its 2017 purchase price. Every other item was updated to the September 2024 appraisal, which values the ring at $6,800. The ring is under-insured by $2,200. The appraisal is right about the value; the schedule is right about what is insured.
