What it says

Hana texted this morning asking for my passport number, she's holding flights for april. I went and got it out of the drawer, out of the envelope with the yen from 2016, and read it to her, and then I read the other line. it expired june 13th. four weeks ago. it's been lying in a drawer being invalid while I planned a trip to Japan. I knew it was this year. I wrote "check the date" in a note two weeks ago and didn't check the date. the photo: I'm eighteen. bad haircut, a collar. it was taken at the pharmacy by the high school the week after graduation, for the trip with them, the three weeks in Wakayama and Kyoto, the only time I've been. Jiichan walked me through Yuasa pointing at things and saying what they used to be. I remember being a little bored. I'd give a lot to be that bored again. it's a renewal by mail, 130 dollars, six to eight weeks. april's nine months off. there's time. I'm going to do it in august when the next cheque clears.
