What it says
christmas here. didn't go home, the flights were over six hundred and december was already built out of portrait money.
video call at ten their time. everyone at mom and dad's except Jiichan, who has been in the hospital since sunday with pneumonia. they say he's responding to the antibiotics. Obaachan held the phone too close so I mostly talked to her forehead. she had on the brooch. Hana carried the laptop to the hospital in the afternoon and I saw him for a minute, propped up, very small in the bed. he said "ah, Theo," and asked if I was eating, and I held up a plate, and he nodded like that settled it.
Annika knocked at noon with cookies in the shape of what she says are stars. Gerald played four carols on the trombone at five, through the floor. I opened the door to the stairwell so I could hear better and found Mireille and Tobias already sitting on the steps with the baby.
I'm ok. I made rice and the good eggs. I should have gone home.
