Why: the mammogram on the 20th. A cluster of calcifications in the left breast, at two o'clock.
What was done: a stereotactic biopsy. Six samples. A tiny metal clip was left to mark the place for future mammograms; it stays for good.
Afterward: ice, 20 minutes on and off, tonight. Tylenol, not aspirin. No lifting with the left arm until tomorrow. The strips stay on five days.
Results: by telephone, in two to three working days. The nurse's name is Renata; call her if I have heard nothing by Tuesday noon.
Monday, October 31, 2:15: Renata telephoned. Benign. A fibroadenoma with calcification. Back to a mammogram once a year.
