What it says
The right eye was done yesterday. Twenty minutes, awake, looking up into a light like the bottom of a swimming pool, with Dr. Okonjo talking quietly to her nurse about lenses.
Connie drove me there and back; R. in a waiting room is no use to anybody.
The shield came off this morning. The refrigerator is white. I had thought for some years that it was cream. My own face in the bathroom mirror was a surprise. The left eye, which is still the old one, sees the kitchen through weak tea; the right sees it washed. I walked round the house shutting one and then the other.
