What it says

Stan died on Sunday. He had been failing since spring, and Judy nursed him at home herself, because nobody else could come in. We drove to Eau Claire yesterday for the burial and back the same night. Thirty people at the graveside, standing apart in masks; the pastor's voice went off with the wind and I caught about half. Nobody could hold Judy. Her children stood on either side of her with their hands at their sides. She did not cry until the lunch in Barb's yard, when somebody handed her his cap. I have a sister who is a widow at sixty-one. I telephoned her every day last week and will go on doing it.
