What it says
The first time we have had any of them since Christmas. Ellen's four came on the 11th, after two weeks of seeing nobody and a test apiece, and David drove from Denver with Lucas and Maeve, two days in the car; Julia could not leave her patients. Nine of us. We hugged in the yard.
On Sunday, with the dishes half done, the water stopped. The well pump, eighty feet down. R. had the cover off the pressure tank in ten minutes and said a word. Stig Borgen came out with his son, pulled the whole string of pipe up into the yard, and had a new pump down the hole and water in the taps before dark. The children watched all of it sitting in a row on the grass.
Maeve is four and told Mr. Borgen that her grandfather could have done it himself but that he has a thing in his heart. R. said that was substantially correct.
