What it says

Christmas here, quietly, with Ellen's four. Birdie ate a wise man off the crèche, the wooden one. I read "Olive, Again" in two sittings on Christmas afternoon while everyone else slept. Olive is old now, and has had a heart attack of her own, and is exactly as rude as ever. Also this fall, in waiting rooms: "The Dutch House." A brother and sister who cannot stop driving back to look at the house they were put out of. I gave my copy to Lorraine with the corners turned down.
