What it says

Family week, thirteen of us, and the new kitchen held. Theo is five months old and was handed up and down the dock all week. Hannah is nine and read to Gus on the dock yesterday, an entire chapter book, holding up the pictures for him to see. Gus cannot manage the steps down to the lake. On Sunday he stood at the top, looked at the children in the water, and whined. So R. carries him down in the morning, all seventy pounds, and sets him in the shallows, and carries him back up at night. R. is sixty-five. The loons hatched two and have one. Nobody saw what took the other.
