What it says

Edinburgh, our last two days. Yesterday we took the train out to South Queensferry so that R. could stand under the Forth Bridge. He stood on the shore in the wind for an hour and a quarter with his neck bent back, and told me the tonnage of the steel, the number of rivets and how many men died building it. For my part I had the National Library, and a second-hand bookshop on a hill where I bought nothing. On Skye last week it rained sideways, and we saw a golden eagle anyway, a long way off, over a ridge. I miss my own kettle. Home Thursday.
