What it says

R. woke me at 3:10 this morning, at the cabin, gray in the face and bent over, with a pain in his right side that he described, when he could describe anything, as a hot bolt. He was sick twice in the yard. I had him in the car by 3:30 and at the emergency room in Woodruff by 3:42. A kidney stone, four millimeters. I had spent the drive thinking about his heart, and when the doctor said "stone" I laughed, out loud, and had to apologize to the room. Fluids, something for the pain, a paper strainer, and home by noon. He is asleep. Ellen's four are already here and David's come Wednesday. He is to drink water and keep off the iced tea.
