What it says

R. has diabetes. Type 2, per Dr. Niemczyk this afternoon; "no longer borderline" were his words. A pill twice a day, a meter, a box of strips, and two classes at Arbor Bluff in April, which I am going to as well. He asked for the numbers, asked what the numbers ought to be, and wrote both down. In the car he said, "So it's a maintenance problem." I said yes. He said, "I can do maintenance." Then we came home and I looked at the pantry: the kringle, the lefse in the freezer, thirty-one jars of the jam I put up in June. I have been feeding this man for thirty-seven years. He weighs 226 pounds.
