What it says
three weeks. I've done the work I owe people and nothing else. I sleep ten hours and wake up tired. the sketchbook has not been opened since Sacramento. the paper is in the flat file and I look at the drawer.
Dez came over tonight without asking, with a cabbage, and said we were making okonomiyaki, and I said I don't have bonito and he took a bag of it out of his coat. he cooked. I chopped. it held together for the first time ever and he said that's because I wasn't the one flipping it.
he didn't ask how I was. he told me a twenty-minute story about a line cook who quit by walking into the walk-in and coming out the back door. halfway through I noticed I was laughing.
he did the pans. at the door he said "I'm coming back thursday. buy eggs."
