What it says
Mom's things: who has what, agreed among the three of us yesterday in her room at Bethel Ridge, in four hours, without a cross word.
To me:
- her engagement ring (white gold, the one Dad bought in Viroqua)
- her pearls
- Grandma Ingeborg's locket, with the curl of Mom's baby hair still in it
- Uncle Einar's watercolor of the home farm, which hung in her kitchen for fifty years and in her room for one
- the aprons and three housedresses, for a quilt
To Walt: the farm photographs, and the Bible, as the eldest; he is to write Mom into it. Dad's deer rifle he has had since 1998 anyway. The rosemaled bowl, for Nancy.
To Judy: the good china, the Hardanger tablecloths, the recipe box. I photographed all 212 cards before it left, front and back.
Everything else went to the Bethel Ridge rummage room, except the afghan, which Hannah asked for and which came home with me.
The ring and the pearls should be looked at by a jeweler; the string on the pearls is as old as I am. All four of my things are to be put on the insurance list with a description.
