What it says

PRAIRIE STAR QUILT GUILD - minutes of the meeting of Monday, September 17, 2018. Community room, Hawkstone Branch Library. To be typed clean and sent to Lynette for the newsletter by the 25th. Called to order 6:32 by Arlys Benedict, president. 47 members present, 3 guests. Minutes of the June meeting: approved as printed in the newsletter. Treasurer (Sue Dettmann): balance $6,418.22 after the summer. Dues of $35 are due tonight; 31 paid at the door. Cheques to the guild, not to Sue. The raffle quilt from the March show cleared $2,610 and the cheque went to the women's shelter in April. Show (Diane Schuster): March 9 and 10, 2019, at the fairgrounds, the same building. Entry forms will be in the January newsletter; entries are due February 1. She needs: someone to chair the white-glove volunteers (Peggy Schultz agreed), six people to hang on the Thursday, and a second person for the admissions table. Judge to be confirmed in October. Raffle quilt for 2019 (Judy Riemer): the pattern is a scrappy Dresden Plate, queen size. Kits for one plate each were handed out tonight, 20 of them. Plates are due back at the November meeting. Tickets will be $1, six for $5. Comfort quilts (Alice Nettesheim): 38 delivered to the children's hospital since January, 12 more ready. The hospital asks for crib size, 36 x 45, bright, no buttons or anything that can come off. Batting is in the cupboard. Retreat (Char Hinz): January 18 to 20 at Sinsinawa. $165 for two nights with meals. Deposit of $50 by November 1. Sixteen beds; nine are taken. Library: Doris Mielke has given the guild eleven books from her own shelves. I am to catalogue them. Program: a trunk show by Marit Solvang of Mount Horeb, 28 quilts in an hour, all of them from Scandinavian weaving patterns turned into piecing. Her handout on drafting from a woven coverlet is in the guild binder. Show and tell: nine members. Pat Hering, a whole-cloth crib quilt, by hand, for a great-grandchild. Shirley Tesch, two table runners. I showed Hannah's bookshelf quilt, top only. Announcements: Stitchery Lane gives members ten per cent on the first Saturday of the month. October's program is binding, by Rosalie Ziegler; bring a quilt sandwich 12 inches square. Adjourned 8:24.
