Question

What did our share of plowing the road up north come to last winter, and who gets the cheque?
A good answer

$240 a lot for the winter of 2025-26, from Ray's notes on the June 2026 meeting, which say only "To Tom". The earlier notes show who that is - Tom Halverson, who collects for the nine lots on Skein Lake Road (2020, $180 a lot; 2024, $215, "cheques to Tom Halverson"; 2025, $230). A good answer names him as the Tom Halverson on the lake road and says it is reading "Tom" from the earlier years; it is not Tom Kittleson or the surveyor of the same name. This is separate from Earl's own bill for their drive and the weekly checks ($780 for that winter, $810 for 2026-27).

SKEIN LAKE ASSOCIATION - annual meeting, Saturday, June 29, 2024, 10:00, town hall. Notes taken by me at Ginger Stauber's request; Jack Niemi is away. To be given to Jack.

Present: 44 households of 53 members. Ginger in the chair.

1. Last year's minutes: approved as mailed.

2. Treasurer (Ray): balance on June 28, $7,118.40. Dues are $85; 50 households have paid for 2024, three have not and will be telephoned. Spent since last June: $340 for the second loon raft, $410 for the August water tests, $265 for printing and postage, $600 toward walleye stocking with the town, $180 for the landing signs. Report accepted.

3. The break-ins last October. Deputy Sara Kivi spoke for fifteen minutes. Three cabins were entered between October 1 and 4. Nobody has been charged. The outboards have not been found. By show of hands, 19 households have put up cameras since.
Agreed: a list of members' off-season telephone numbers and the dates each place is empty, kept by the secretary and given only to the year-round members who ask. Bev Gustafson, Wayne Pekkala and Jack Niemi agreed to be the three who watch. Motion by Tom Halverson, carried.

4. Loons (Ginger, for Jack): two rafts out this year, the old one off the island and the new one in the east bay. The pair used the east bay raft. TWO CHICKS, hatched June 18 and 19. Floating signs are out; please keep boats 200 feet off.

5. Water: clarity 15 feet last August. No milfoil found at the landing inspection.

6. The landing: the town's new ramp is holding. The dock beside it wants two boards; Wayne will see to it and bill the association.

7. Fireworks on the Fourth: from the Halversons' point as usual, at dusk. Donations to Tom.

8. Officers: all three re-elected.

9. Next meeting: June 28, 2025.

Adjourned 11:20.

Not association business: the nine of us on Skein Lake Road owe $215 a lot for Earl's plowing and grading of the road last winter. Cheques to Tom Halverson.

Skein Lake Association, annual meeting, yesterday. 31 households present of 52.

Ray is treasurer. Per Ray, what he was handed:
- One chequebook, one shoebox, one ledger in pencil going back to 1998.
- Balance $4,812.67.
- Dues are $75 a household. 44 paid for this year so far.
- What the money goes for: the loon nesting raft, the water testing every August, the boat-landing signs, the fish-stocking share with the town, the newsletter.

Tom Halverson stays president. Jack Niemi stays secretary.

The road agreement, separately, for the nine of us on Skein Lake Road: Earl's bill for plowing and grading last winter came to $1,620, so $180 a lot. Paid to Tom, who collects.

only_in_note Facts that are still only in one everyday note after the second pass: the Gustafsons' gate code, the shed padlock, where the Christmas ornaments are, the dog's food and amount, Ray's sizes, the ice-out log from 2004, the main water shutoff, the septic alarm light, Hannah's dorm room, the way to the cabin, the lefse proportions, each lot's share of the plowing, and the size of the lake bedroom's screen. These were not scrubbed from other records on purpose; they are simply things written down once.

same_name Two different men called Tom Halverson: Ray's survey crew chief from the firm (a 608 number, Verona), and the neighbor with the first cabin on the lake road (a 715 number, 8783 Skein Lake Road, also on the bylaws' list of lots). The cards no longer say that he is not the other; the comment, the number and the address tell them apart.
