What it says
The neurologist today. An hour and a half. He had her draw a clock, name animals, remember five words. She got the animals. She named about every animal on a farm and then said "and a mule" and laughed.
He told her straight, with me sitting there. He said, "Mrs. Pruitt, your memory isn't working the way it should, and I think it's the beginning of Alzheimer's disease." She said, "Well. My mother had hardening of the arteries." He said that may have been the same thing. She nodded.
In the truck she said, "Did he say I'm losing my mind?" I said he said your memory's having trouble and there's a pill that might slow it. She said, "Don't tell Betty." Then she asked what we were having for supper.
By the time we got to her house she'd lost it. The whole appointment. She thought we'd been to the eye doctor.
So I'm the one who knows.
