truing, lesson 3 w/ Ines
- lateral first, small. quarter turns MAX. find the worst spot, fix a third of it, move on, come back
- rim pulls TOWARD the spoke you tighten. hub flange side matters: to move the rim left, tighten a left-flange spoke or loosen a right one
- do both (tighten one, loosen its neighbors a little) so the wheel doesn't go egg shaped
- then radial (hops): tighten 2-4 spokes at the high spot, both sides equal
- then dish, flip it in the stand to check
- stress relieve: squeeze parallel pairs, hear the pings, re-check
- tension: pluck them. rear drive side should all sing about the same note, higher than non-drive
she made me do the same rental-fleet wheel 3 times. the third took 11 minutes.
