What it says

KETTLEBIRD KICKOFF, thurs 9/18, 10am at the roastery on Tallow St. there: Rashid, Bex (design), Tomas (head roaster), me. about 90 min what got decided - posture: all eight birds face RIGHT, toward where the type starts, except the Loon which is on water and can face left bc it's the flagship and "the Loon does what it wants" (Tomas) - Bittern stays. I floated swapping it for a heron since that's what they found me for. Rashid: no, the bittern is the weird one, the Sumatra is the weird coffee, it stays. also Tomas says a bittern "sounds like a broken pump" and wants that on the bag somehow. Bex said no - Killdeer: they want the broken-wing display. I said that's a distress act, might read as an injured bird on a bag of coffee. agreed: standing, the two black neck bands clear, maybe eggs in gravel - Junco (decaf): Rashid wants it "the quietest one." on snow, mostly white space - Waxwing must have the red wax tips on the wing. Tomas will check - the hidden kettle: I show them WHERE it is in each sketch w/ a red circle on a separate layer so they can approve it's findable. nobody else at the roastery gets told - sketches will be pencil on paper, scanned, not digital. they want to see the looking. finals digital for the separations spot colours (Bex, Pantone uncoated, she'll email the chips) Loon: deep blue-black. Chickadee: warm ochre. Junco: grey-violet. Kingfisher: teal. Nuthatch: rust. Waxwing: mustard. Killdeer: clay brown. Bittern: reed green I asked for the Kingfisher's teal and the Loon's blue to be further apart, on kraft they'll look the same. Bex agreed, she'll shift the Loon darker files - Pressroom North template comes from Bex by monday - line layer 1200dpi bitmap, spot layer can be 600 greyscale. NO anti-aliasing on the line layer - name files kb_[bird]_v#.psd money - contract is Rashid's one-pager + the brief attached as exhibit A. signed it there - deposit invoice today: 2,100. he paid it from his phone on the spot - second 2,100 on delivery 11/14 dates, same as the brief. I said the 10/3 sketch date is fine. 15 days for 8 birds to do this week - reference: the bird book from the library + Marit said I can come draw the study skins at Coldwater (they have a waxwing and a junco) - go LOOK at a kingfisher. Lu says there's one at the creek below the falls most mornings - first: loon + chickadee, the easy ones, to set the style
