What it says
there's a heron in the back stairwell, standing on the landing between the first and second floor. it's too tall for the space, its head is bent under the ceiling. I need to get past it to take the trash out. Gerald's door is open and he's playing one long note. the heron looks at me with the one eye and I understand I'm supposed to say a number, and I say "three," and it's wrong.
